Jeju, an island located in the southernmost tip of Korea, is commonly known as "The Island of Peace" with its clean air, water, and the wonderful landscapes. Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival (JIWEF) is one of the major art festivals of Jeju, harmonized with the peaceful image of the island, the romanticism of summer, and the characteristic of wind music which is easy to perform outdoors.

Since 1995, JIWEF has been held every other year with the effort and the work of Jeju natives. In 1998, we prepared a small size professional ensemble festival with participants from Japan, Taiwan, and Germany. This marked the start of the festival on even numbered years focused on professionalism along with odd numbered years focused on audience participation and general popularity. Since 2000, we have organized an international brass competition in addition to the ensemble festival.
Jeju International Brass Competition seeks to find out and foster young, talented wind instrumentalists from all around the world and to give them an opportunity to share friendships and cultural exchange with one and another. This competition is the only competition in the world that holds the entire brass divisions including Horn, Trumpet, Tenor Trombone, Bass Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Brass Quintet, and Percussions. Jeju International Brass Competition has become a member of World Federation of International Music Competitions in April, 2009

Along with JIWEF, Jeju held the 13th Asia-Pacific Band Directors´ Association Wind Music Festival in 2003, and the World Championship of Marching Show Bands in 2006. And in 2014, we hosted the 18th Asia Pacific Band Director’s Association Wind Music Festival.

Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival and Jeju International Brass Competition pursue to promote the popularity and specialty of the wind music by hosting both events together.
